The Sun Still Shines

Above the Pennsylvania clouds,

The sun began dipping into

A sea of whipped cream.

Then we prepped for landing.

The windows darkened.

Turbulence.

Where was the sun now?

Rain began.

Streaks painted the windows

Gray blue.

Rubber bumped the road

And the pushback roared.

A dim filter

Overlaid the world

Throwing shade

On everything

That used to be bright.

Where was the sun?

Still there

Where I’d left it,

But it hadn’t left me.
